Pacing

Remove silence and getyour pacing back

Every "um", every three-second pause, every breath between takes — gone in one pass. Shorz finds the dead air, cuts it, and leaves the speech tight enough to hold a scrolling audience.

How to use the silence remover in three steps

Un-edited talking-head footage is roughly a third dead air, and that third is where people leave. Manually cutting it is the most mind-numbing job in editing. Shorz detects silences against a threshold you set, cuts them out, and keeps a little padding either side so the result sounds deliberate rather than clipped.

Set what counts as silence

Control the minimum gap length, the loudness threshold and how much padding to keep around each phrase. Aggressive for short-form, gentler for a long-form explainer.

Get a tightened cut

Shorz removes the gaps and returns a new file — the original is never overwritten. Run it standalone, or let the full Auto Edit pass do it alongside filler-word removal, zooms and captions.

Why Silence Remover in Shorz

The Shorz auto-edit workspace applying multiple edits from one instruction

Part of a whole edit, not a one-off

Silence removal is one instruction inside Auto Edit. In the same pass Shorz can strip filler words, add zooms, caption every word, place emojis, insert titles and apply transitions — the entire first-pass edit, from one plain-language brief.

Shorz speaks MCP

Shorz isn't a locked web app. Connect it to Claude, Cursor, Codex or Gemini and your assistant can drive it directly — one message instead of a panel full of clicks. You review before anything is published.

Silence Remover questions

No — it cuts silences, not speech, and keeps a configurable amount of padding either side of each phrase so the result doesn't sound clipped. You control the minimum gap length and the loudness threshold.

Filler-word removal is part of the Auto Edit pass, alongside silence removal. Run the whole pass and you get both, plus cuts, zooms, subtitles, emojis, titles and transitions.

Never. Shorz writes a new file and leaves the source untouched, so you can re-run with different settings.

The Auto Edit pass — which includes silence removal, filler-word removal, cuts, zooms, subtitles, emojis, titles and transitions — is included in the free weekly allowance: 4 Auto Edit or Clipping videos a week for signed-in users, no card, source videos up to 30 minutes.
