Resize & convert

Video resizer andaspect ratio converter

Scale to exact dimensions, or fit into a target frame with letterbox bars in whatever colour you want. Two different jobs, both done locally on files of any size.

A video being converted between landscape, square and vertical frames in Shorz

How to use the video resizer in three steps

"Resize" covers two things people constantly confuse. Scaling changes the pixel dimensions and keeps the whole picture. Fitting keeps the whole picture too but pads it into a different shape with bars. Neither is the same as reframing, which throws away part of the image to fill a new shape — and for a talking head, reframing with face tracking is almost always what you actually wanted.

Setting an exact output width and height for a video
1

Scale to exact dimensions

Give a width and a height — or just one, and Shorz preserves the aspect ratio. Useful for hitting a platform's spec or shrinking a 4K master for upload.

Width, height, or both

2

Or fit into a new shape

Fit-to-aspect scales the video inside a target frame and pads the rest with letterbox or pillarbox bars — in any colour, so black bars aren't your only option.

Or reframe instead of padding

For talking-head footage, switch the project ratio and let face tracking crop into the new shape with the speaker centred. Full-bleed instead of bars.

Why Video Resizer in Shorz

The same clip shown padded with bars and reframed full-bleed side by side

Bars or no bars — you choose

Padding preserves the whole frame, which matters for gameplay, screen recordings and anything with text at the edges. Reframing fills the screen, which matters for faces. Shorz gives you both instead of picking for you.

Two ways to convert

Face-tracked reframing producing a native vertical export

One project, every platform's shape

16:9 for YouTube, 1:1 for square feeds, 9:16 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts are all native project ratios — so you export the shape you need rather than converting after the fact.

Shorz speaks MCP

Shorz isn't a locked web app. Connect it to Claude, Cursor, Codex or Gemini and your assistant can drive it directly — one message instead of a panel full of clicks. You review before anything is published.

An AI assistant asks Shorz: Fit this 16:9 gameplay clip into 1080×1920 with dark grey bars, then add captions.

You say

“Fit this 16:9 gameplay clip into 1080×1920 with dark grey bars, then add captions.”

Shorz does

  • 1Read the source dimensions
  • 2Fit into 1080×1920 with the pad colour
  • 3Caption the result
  • 4Export the vertical file

Every tool ships with the same promises

Video Resizer questions

Resizing scales the video to new pixel dimensions. Fit-to-aspect scales it inside a target frame and pads the leftover space with letterbox or pillarbox bars in a colour you choose. Reframing — a third option — crops into the new shape instead, with face tracking keeping the subject centred.

Yes. Supply only a width or only a height and Shorz preserves the ratio for the other dimension.

No — you can set the pad colour to anything, which is handy when you want the bars to match a brand background rather than sit as black voids.

No. Resizing runs locally on your own machine, so there's no upload, no queue and no size limit.
